Services — Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)

Generative engine optimization services that make AI name you.

Your buyers are asking ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Google’s AI Overviews who to hire. Shmeer is a generative engine optimization agency that gets your brand into those answers, and proves it with weekly citation data from our own platform, InfluenceLayer.

01 — The shift

Ranking on Google is no longer the same as being found.

Why GEO exists

More buying journeys now start with a question typed into an AI assistant. The answer it gives is a short list of brands, and most buyers never click past it. If you are not in that list, you were never considered.

Classic SEO still matters, but it is a different game. Search engines rank pages. Large language models assemble answers from the sources they trust: review sites, Reddit threads, Wikipedia, YouTube, industry publications, and pages written so a model can lift a clean, quotable answer. A brand can rank on page one of Google and still be invisible in ChatGPT.

Generative engine optimization (GEO), also called AI search engine optimization, LLM SEO or answer engine optimization, is the work of earning a place in those answers. It means fixing what models read about you, where they read it, and how easily they can cite it, then measuring the result instead of guessing.

02 — What's included

Everything it takes to become the answer.

01 — AI visibility audit

Find out what AI says about you today.

We run your category’s real buyer questions through ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Copilot, and record who gets named, how often, and with what sentiment. You get a baseline share of voice against your competitors.

02 — Citation mapping

Map the sources models actually trust.

For every key question we identify the pages AI engines pull from, from G2 comparisons and Reddit threads to niche blogs and newsletters. That map becomes the plan: where you need to be present, and what needs to change there.

03 — Content for retrieval

Rewrite your site so models can quote it.

Answer-first page structure, explicit Q&A sections, comparison pages, structured data, clean entity information and an llms.txt file. Your own pages become the easiest source for a model to cite.

04 — Source authority

Show up where the answers are assembled.

Contributor content, community engagement, review generation, digital PR and partnerships across the highest-signal third-party sources, so your positioning appears consistently wherever models look.

05 — Tracking in InfluenceLayer

Share of model, measured weekly.

InfluenceLayer tracks citation share, sentiment and competitive position across every major AI engine. The dashboard you see is the one we work from, and we review it with you every week.

06 — SEO alignment

GEO and SEO that pull in the same direction.

AI Overviews and AI Mode still lean on Google’s index, so we keep technical SEO, internal linking and topical authority in step with the GEO work. Nothing we do for AI visibility costs you rankings.

05 — FAQ

Generative engine optimization, answered.

What is generative engine optimization?

Generative engine optimization (GEO) is the practice of getting your brand mentioned and cited in answers produced by AI systems such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Google AI Overviews. It combines content restructured for AI retrieval, authority on the third-party sources models trust, and ongoing measurement of how often AI names you.

How is GEO different from SEO?

SEO earns rankings for pages in a list of search results. GEO earns mentions inside a single generated answer. The two overlap, since strong pages and authority help both, but AI engines weigh third-party sources, clear quotable answers and consistent brand information more heavily than classic rankings do. A brand can rank well on Google and still be missing from AI answers.

Are AEO and GEO different things?

Mostly no. Answer engine optimization (AEO) started with featured snippets and voice assistants; generative engine optimization is the newer term for large language models. In practice the work is the same: be the clearest, most trusted answer to your buyers’ questions. We use GEO as the umbrella term.

How do you measure GEO success?

We track share of voice on your category’s buyer questions, citation rate per AI engine, sentiment, competitor position, and AI referral traffic and leads in your analytics. All of it is reported weekly in InfluenceLayer, against the baseline from the first audit.

How long does generative engine optimization take?

On-site changes can be picked up within weeks, and early citation movement usually shows within the first two to three months. Winning a category takes longer: in our fintech engagement, share of voice went from 0% to 71% over eight months. We plan GEO as a six-month minimum.

Do I need extra budget for GEO, or does it replace SEO?

It doesn’t replace SEO. If you already invest in SEO and content, part of that budget can shift to GEO work, because the same pages and authority serve both. Brands starting from zero usually run them together. We’ll recommend a split after the audit, based on where your buyers actually search.

Do you offer GEO for local businesses?

Yes. Local businesses face the same shift when customers ask AI for “the best HVAC company near me”. See our Local GEO service, built on InfluenceLayer Local.
